Meet the Staff

Sally & Fran Marchand, Executive Director

It’s been 29 years since I first set foot on Camp Mohawk’s grounds, and it has been quite an amazing journey.  My wife Sally and I have raised four amazing sons in that time, and instilled in them a love for Mohawk—so much so that my son Patrick is now our Camp Director.  Since moving into the role of Executive Director, I now find time to engage in different roles.  A highlight of the past summer was being able to spend a great deal of time with our CITs.  I am convinced that there was a great deal of learning being experienced by both the girls and myself, and I relished the opportunity to work with this group of future Mohawk leaders.

Patrick Marchand, Camp Director

What’s better than going to camp during the summer?  Try growing up at camp.  Those many years of running around trying all the activities gave me a huge insight into how amazing camp is and how it ran.  Ever since then, I knew I wanted to be a Camp Director.  So, I got my Bachelor’s degree at Springfield College and then went on to direct YMCA Camp Torymca for six years.  I returned to Mohawk as Director seven years ago.  Since then, I met my wife Amy at Mohawk, and couldn’t be happier.  I plan to continue on the family legacy here.  As our song goes, I’m a Mohawker born, and Mohawker bred!

Amanda Ryan, Associate Director
Tracy Seigle, Assistant Director

I have been in love with camp since as far back as I can remember! I was a camper for many years at Mohawk and cherished the time I got to spend there each summer. A few summers ago I realized the key in life to being happy is doing something you enjoy every day. With that mind set I applied to be a counselor at Camp Mohawk. Being at camp again gave me the opportunity to share the Mohawk spirit I had experienced with my campers. This is now my fourth year as associate director and I continue to help spread the Mohawk spirit in even more creative ways, and it’s very exciting!

I grew up in Eastern CT where I spent my childhood playing outside in the woods behind my parents’ house with my older brother and neighborhood friends. From brook stomping to climbing trees and chasing toads and turtles, I formed a love and appreciation for nature at a very young age. I attended local day camps for a few summer where I loved meeting new people, making friendship bracelets, and swimming. As I grew older, I spent more time outside hiking, biking, and running and realized I was always happiest when I was outside. In high school and college, I spent a lot of time teaching and working with children and I loved watching children grow in confidence as they learned a new skill or made a new friend. I combined my two biggest passions and started working as a camp counselor right out of college. From there I began working for the YMCA as a day camp director and have been a camping professional since then. I’m so excited to be a part of the Camp Mohawk team and can’t wait for the summer!

Summer Staff

Each cabin is under the leadership of mature, caring counselors. Many of our counselors have come up through the ranks of Mohawk as campers, CIT, Junior Counselor, and then Counselor. Others are recruited throughout the United States and other English speaking countries such as England, Ireland, Scotland, and Australia. Counselors are selected based on their experience with children, energy, creativity, and a desire to be a positive role model for children. All staff are required to participate in an intensive pre-season on-site training.
