Guess who’s back!

Guess who’s back!

We are thrilled to welcome Katie Bell back to Camp Mohawk! Here is what Katie had to say about coming back this summer:

“This summer will be my 7th year working at Mohawk! I was a Jawak counselor and the Riding Camp instructor during my first summer in 2003, Stable Manager in 2005 and 2007, and Riding Director in 2009, 2010, and 2012. I actually met Patrick by chance at a Camp America recruitment fair in London 13 years ago, when I was 18 years old. And the rest, as they say, is history! Mohawk is most definitely my second home. Since I’ve spent the last 3 summers away from camp (my longest ever gap!), I think I am most excited just to throw myself back into camp life. I also can’t wait to see all of the other staff members, campers, and horses(!) that I haven’t seen in a long time.

My favorite Mohawk memory probably comes from the summer of 2010. We had two goats at camp that summer, as we normally would as part of the farm program, but this particular summer we started off with two and ended up with three! I was lucky enough to witness one of the goats giving birth to its baby one sunny afternoon during cabin activity and it was awesome. We had no idea mommy goat was even pregnant so it was definitely a surprise! The kids were all understandably so excited (so was I!) and we let them all put in name suggestions for the baby – we ended up naming him Charlie.

Something funny at camp is that Fran always likes to joke that I spend so much time at the barn that he’s amazed I even know where the lake is! Admittedly, I am definitely a red swimmer and prefer to stay on land most of the time, but I’m not quite as allergic to the water as he thinks I am.

After camp ends, I’m planning on spending a year travelling and working in New Zealand. I have never been there before and am looking forward to having some great experiences in a cool, new place.”
