COVID-19 Updates

Dear Mohawk Family,

It has finally come to that time where I must share some unfortunate and sad news.  As of last night, the Governor of Connecticut has said in an executive order that overnight camps will not be allowed to open up this summer and this includes Camp Mohawk.  It is with a heavy heart I write this knowing so many children, parents, and staff will be affected by this news.  We have been holding out hope that we could make this work, even with the restrictions.

For 100 years Mohawk has provided a safe place for campers to thrive in a beautiful outdoor setting where they laugh, sing, and grow so much in such a short amount of time. This will be the first year in our history that we don’t have an overnight camp.  That being said we recognize that this will be very hard on our campers and we want to help where we can.  Here is a link to a video message for your campers. We’ll be sending another one out with staff in the next few days as well.

With this announcement comes a few changes to benefit our community and our campers.

  • All campers that are registered for 2020 will be allowed back in 2021 regardless of age
  • CIT’s from 2020 will have the option to defer to 2021 without another application.
  • We’ll continue live entertainment on Instagram daily.
  • We’ll move forward with connecting campers with friends and trained counselors through Virtual Camp.
  • You’ll have the option of a full refund including deposit.
  • An email with your refund options will be sent out this week

What are we going to do now?

We’ve been asked to consider opening our facility to help with a lack of childcare in our community.  The Board of Directors, our staff, and myself have agreed that we would do what we can and open for childcare as a co-ed day camp for this summer.  We have some wonderful Mohawk staff that have already said they would be willing to live at camp and help run this program.  This will be a very odd time for us this summer, but we have committed to ourselves that “if we can help, we will”.

I can’t thank you enough for your patience and your words of encouragement in the past few weeks to keep going, and to find a way to make it work.  From the Zoom chats and comments to the emails and posts, you have provided us with so much support.  My family, our staff, and the Board of Directors thank you!  I know there are more questions out there and I’d still like to do another round of Zoom calls starting later this week.  Maggie will be sending out invitations for the calls, as well as posting them on our website.

The Mohawk spirit is still very present and strong in your camper.  We’ll be here to see that shine through again soon.  Until then I wish you the very best.

With the abundant amount of school cancellations, we figure that most of our Mohawkers are home from school and might need something fun to do. We’d thought we would try to lift the moods and offer some camp-like entertainment. We will be going live on Instagram every weekday at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with new activities. It will involve dancing, singing, writing, and moving throughout the house. If any changes are made, they will be published in our Instagram story.
