Alumni Question of the Quarter: Fall 2024

Little Library by the Brook

We love Camp for the opportunity to enjoy time in nature.  But with nature comes…nature.  Camp Mohawk is home to a vast array of wildlife (and, during the summer, some charming horses and farm animals as well).  What was your favorite/funniest animal encounter at Camp?

Join the discussion in the Camp Mohawk Alumni Facebook group or send an e-mail at alumni@campmohawk.org. We may share your name and response in the next edition of The Ivy Twines, coming in December!

Last quarter, we asked for book recommendations to stock Camp’s Little Library (established by author and Mohawk alumna Liz Delton).  Here are some responses!

Special thanks to alumna Marguerite Starr who dropped off a book donation to Camp’s Little Library this summer.

What books would you have loved to see in the Little Library by the Brook?

Liz Delton: When I was in 8th grade, my favorite books were by Tamora Pierce, which definitely served as the inspiration to become a fantasy author.

Tierney Steele Callaghan: Anything Beverly Cleary

Laura Anne Maturo: Maniac McGee, The Giver, Letters from Rifka, Zlata’s Diary, Raptor Red…But also maybe some books for the Jawaks just learning to read.  The Flubby series are picture books but freaking adorable and from an author in Massachusetts.

Amy Nelson: Babysitter’s Club Books – always a hit!

Karen Luttenberger: The Secret Garden.

Editor’s Note: I’ve begun collecting some recommended books and tagging them with a custom “Camp Mohawk Little Library” book plate for our campers to enjoy over future summers.   If you have additional suggestions, please comment on Facebook or send an email to alumni@campmohawk.org.
